Description Adaptive Leadership, Emotional Intelligence & Type is a practical leadership development course designed for managers, team leaders, emerging leaders, coaches and learning professionals who want to develop their ability to lead people through uncertainty, complexity and change.
Modern leadership rarely involves following a predetermined route. Priorities shift, circumstances change, people respond differently and unexpected challenges can make the original plan inappropriate. Adaptive leadership requires leaders to recognise what is happening, question assumptions, work effectively with different people and adjust their approach while maintaining a clear sense of purpose.
This course exploresadaptive leadership through emotional intelligence, Personality Type, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), immersive learning, gaming principles and quest-based leadership challenges. Rather than treating leadership simply as a collection of theories, it combines practical role plays, purpose-built AI-enhanced interactive tools and immersive quests to provide opportunities to explore choices, consequences and alternative approaches.
Theinteractive tools take learning beyond simply watching videos. Through interactive assessments, personalised exploration and activities that respond to your choices, you can examine Personality Type, explore different preferences and consider how these may influence communication, decision-making and leadership. These tools have been developed specifically to help you engage actively with the concepts and relate them to your own leadership practice.
You will explore howemotional intelligence supports adaptive leadership through greater self-awareness, awareness of others, emotional regulation, empathy, communication and considered decision-making. You will consider how emotions, personality preferences and behaviour influence leadership responses, particularly when working under pressure or when circumstances are uncertain.
The course usesMyers-Briggs Personality Type to explore differences in how people take in information, make decisions, direct and receive energy, approach the outside world and interact with others. The emphasis is not on labelling people or suggesting that Type determines behaviour. Instead, Type provides a framework for recognising preferences, understanding differences and developing greater flexibility in how you lead and work with others.
You will explore the four preference pairs associated with theMyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and consider how the resulting Personality Types can influence communication, decision-making, problem-solving, teamwork and leadership.
The course also considerstemperament within Personality Type. Temperament provides a broader way of grouping patterns of personality preferences and exploring some of the different motivations, perspectives and approaches that people may bring to leadership and teamwork. This provides another lens through which to consider Type while keeping the focus on individual differences rather than assuming that everyone within a particular grouping will behave in the same way.
A distinctive feature of the course is the use ofType-informed avatars within immersive practice. These avatars provide a psychologically safer way to explore different perspectives, leadership tendencies and behavioural responses. They enable you to experiment with approaches that may feel less natural, consider situations from another personality perspective and explore how greater behavioural flexibility can support adaptive leadership.
Another distinctive feature is the use ofinteractive immersive quests and gaming principles for leadership development. The quests place you within imaginative environments where circumstances evolve, priorities compete and decisions have consequences. Rather than simply reading about a leadership challenge, you become actively involved in considering what to do next as the situation develops.
The immersive leadership quests include challenges involving
-changing objectives
-limited resources
-competing stakeholder needs
-uncertainty
-disruption
-technology
-artificial intelligence
-human capability
-trust
-changing definitions of success
As situations develop, you will be encouraged to reconsider assumptions, adapt priorities and determine what effective leadership requires. You will also have opportunities to consider how people with different personality preferences may interpret and respond to the same situation differently. The quests provide opportunities to practise adaptive leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making in situations where there may not be a single correct answer.
The quests can be explored individually, but they have been designed particularly astools for team learning and discussion. Teams can use them to compare perspectives, explore different responses and consider how Personality Type may influence the way people interpret challenges, communicate their ideas, make decisions and contribute to a shared outcome.
Throughout the course, you will consider the relationship betweenquests, organisational objectives and key performance indicators, and how immersive environments can create meaningful opportunities for leadership practice. You will explore how gaming technology, interactive tools and experiential learning can move leadership development beyond passive learning towards experimentation, reflection and practical application.
Importantly, the immersive experiences are not games for their own sake. Each challenge creates an opportunity to examine your leadership thinking and thentransfer those insights back into the workplace. Reflection encourages you to consider what influenced your choices, how personality preferences may have affected your response, how other people might approach the situation differently and what you could adapt when facing comparable situations with your own team.
By the end of the course, you will have explored adaptive leadership from several interconnected perspectives
